Interested in joining the Citizens Police Academy?

The Citizens Police Academy is an excellent opportunity for residents and business owners to get a "behind the scene" look into the Surfside Police Department. The Academy enables participants to become more familiar with the day-to-day operations of the Police Department.

Participants gain a better understanding of police policies and procedures, responsibilities, personnel demands, and the laws that guide their decision making. This eleven week course is held each year from September to November on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The curriculum includes "hands on" instruction, guest lecturers, classroom activities, K-9 and marine patrol demonstrations, actual participation at the firearm and driving ranges, and the opportunity for "ride-alongs" with patrol officers.

Classes are held at Town Hall in the police training room on the 2nd floor. Transportation is provided free of charge for field trips to other law enforcement agencies, and to the driving and firearm ranges. At the end of each 11 week course, an awards banquet is held. Class space is limited to 25 individuals. When a new Police Academy is offered residents are advised to register early because classes fill up quickly. This popular course is presented free of charge and available to the citizens of the Town of Surfside.

This program is offered once a year in September, please call Senior Executive Assistant to the Chief Dina Goldstein at 305.861.4862 for details.
